Ringsfield Hall

Residential training weekends for beginners, experienced and advanced users of Mantle of the Expert.
Residential courses are ideal for both newcomers and experienced users. Running from Friday night until Sunday lunchtime, they contain a series of practical workshops that explore all the fundamental skills of drama, planning and teaching needed to teach MoE successfully in the classroom. The weekends are led by two trainers from the national team, Luke Abbott, a former student of Dorothy Heathcote and expert in dramatic-inquiry, and Tim Taylor a practicing teacher and AST.
Running since 2005, these courses are extremely popular and have proved successful in introducing and training hundreds of teachers in the use and application of mantle of the expert.
The weekends are of two kinds:
1. Getting Started & Consolidating
Courses suitable for both complete beginners and those who have already had a go and want to find out more.
- 2nd – 4th March 2012
- 11th – 13th May 2012
- 21st – 23rd September 2012
- 2nd – 4th November 2012
A two-day training weekend for teachers, school-leaders, classroom assistants, and students interested in using Mantle of the Expert across the Key Stages.
Run as a series of practice-based workshops, participants will be involved in a series of MoE frames – experiencing ‘being inside the work’. They will explore:
- How to build meaningful and engaging learning experiences for cross-curricular learning
- How to use and apply Dorothy Heathcote’s dramatic conventions to develop immersive imaginary contexts
- How to apply some of the more complex issues of the system, including building tension, sequencing and signing
- Methods for planning and assessment
Many practicing teachers have found it very useful to attend more than one of these weekends before moving onto the Advanced course.
2. Developing Advanced Use
This course is for very experienced users of the system who have designed and developed extended Mantle of the Expert projects in a variety of different contexts. It also constitutes part of the Masters Level Course – for more information click here.
- This year’s Advanced course is November 25th – 27th, 2011
These weekends will explore, through a series of frames, the use of multiple conventions and signs systems to work with children to develop emergent curriculum situations and experiences.
There will be opportunities for participants to create and facilitate their own frames and dramatic sequences during the weekend.
Note: For more information on the syllabus for these weekends and other courses run by mantleoftheexpert.com please consult the programme for becoming a trained user of mantle of the expert.
